A Window on the Sky
These skyscapes were seen from the same window over an arc of six years. Standing at the window I’m absorbed into an open-ended spectacle of light. My emotional response to what I am seeing and experiencing is embodied in the photographs. And then there are sensations that are fugitive and I can only attempt to hint at in a photograph, like the vibrant stillness in the heart of silence.
Traslochi
Traslochi is an Italian word that means moving/changing places. It is also the title of Paola Pennecchi’s poetry collection and our show/catalogue in which I exhibited a sequence of photographs alongside Pennecchi’s poems. Two metaphorical journeys dialogue with each other through images and words.
Chiaroscuro
It was like walking into a Piranesi print or stumbling around an ancient ruin: only the faint fluttering of trapped pigeons disturbed the silence… Abandoned staircases rose toward empty dressing rooms and blacked-out windows. Faint streaks of light picked out a dark wooden upright in the orchestra pit holding up the floorboards of the stage. Seeing is complex. During the process of photographing the theatre I realized that my initial desire to document the space in a straightforward way had merged with a more abstract desire to mark time by following the play of light over a period of two full days. The result is Chiaroscuro.
Lost Keys: An Italian Journal
Lost Keys: An Italian Journal is a sequence of 54 black and white photographs selected from my archive. The editing was done in 2023. The photographs were made between 1996 to 2011 using a film camera. The work was exhibited in a solo show of silver prints at SPAZIOTEMPORANEO di Patrizia Serra in Milan in 2025. A catalogue with a text by Denis Curti accompanied the exhibition:
“…They are images of lived lives, snapshots we can use to access other worlds… From a formal standpoint the project could be seen as a pilgrimage across Italy. A creative displacement during which the photographer, starting with reality, establishes a dialog between an inner life and the external perceived world.”
